Visit Washington DC

Spring is finally here! Several days ago I went to visit Washington DC with a friend and her husband to see the cherry blossoms and take cherry blossom pictures. We also wanted to take Washington DC pictures and unfortunately my husband had to work and was unable to join us.
Originally we were going to ride to a metro station outside of the city and ride the metro in but we decided to take our chances on finding a parking space in the city. We had to drive around a little while but finally found a spot in a parking garage that we felt would be fine and was fairly well located behind Union Station. It has been a while since I have been able to visit Washington DC so I was glad that I didn't have to drive into the city.
The weather forecast for the day we were there wasn't the greatest but we knew we would make the best of it no matter what the weather turned out to be. Our first stop was at the U.S. Supreme Court where we were able to enter the courtroom and listen to the opinions. When we entered, the day was overcast and a light rain was falling. By the time we exited the building, the rain was heavier so we decided to tour the indoor arboretum next in order to enjoy the beautiful flowers and plants.

When we were finished with that, the rain was still falling so we got out our rain gear and strolled along the mall while we planned the rest of our day. The sky looked like it was going to clear so we were hopeful that we might end up having some nice weather. As we approached the Washington Monument, the sun was just starting to peak out from the clouds and at least the rain had stopped. We attempted to get tickets to go up in the Washington Monument but even though the weather wasn't the best and crowds were fairly light for the day, the tickets were no longer available...maybe next time. It seems like every time we visit Washington DC we do not plan ahead to get tickets for the monument.
We were able to take a lot of pictures as it gradually turned into a beautiful, sunny day. We continued on to the Tidal Basin and the World War II Memorial where we could see the Lincoln Memorial across the Tidal Basin. The cherry blossoms were magnificent and added to the beauty of the day.

Our next stop was to see the White House. Sometime when I visit Washington DC I would love to take a tour of the White House. The wonderful architecture of not only the White House, but many of the other beautiful buildings in Washington gives the city an almost European feel. We enjoyed seeing the outsides of the buildings almost as much as we would have enjoyed seeing the insides.
By this time it was mid afternoon and we had been walking for what felt like miles. We were wishing we had worn a pedometer so we would have an idea of how far we had actually walked during the day. We still had to get back to Union Station where our car was parked and it felt like we would never make it. On our walk to the car, we realized we were starting to get hungry and decided to try the Cheesecake Factory near Washington. We all felt that after all the walking we had done that day, we not only needed and wanted a piece of cheesecake but we also felt that we DESERVED a piece. We had never eaten at one and we didn't want to pass up the opportunity when there was one fairly close by. We weren't sure of the address or how far it was from where we had parked so I called a friend to look up the address on the internet for us...ah, technology! We reached the car...finally...and with map out and address in hand we headed to the
Cheesecake Factory.
The perfect end to the perfect day!
